Coffee with a female footprint

More than taste - a coffee with a purpose

In the Kirundo region of northern Burundi, the Terimbere cooperative works to strengthen the role of women in coffee production. The name means “Let’s move forward” and reflects the cooperative’s ambition to create positive changes, both socially and economically, for women in the local area. Here, Arabica coffee of the Red Bourbon variety is grown at 1665 masl, under conditions that promote both quality and community. Through partnerships like this, coffee is not just a taste experience, it is also a path to increased equality and local progress.

A coffee experience that stands out

Flavor wheel - flavor notes and aroma

With a lively and balanced flavor profile, this coffee offers fruity nuances and a pleasant sweetness. You will experience notes of berries, fresh grapefruit, and delicate honey, rounded off by a long and smooth aftertaste that lingers.

The coffee consists of Arabica Red Bourbon, grown at 1665 masl in Burundi and processed using the washed method, which highlights its clean and clear taste expression.

We have chosen this particular coffee based on its high cup score of 86+, a quality stamp in itself. But it also stands out on another important point: it is produced by a cooperative that works purposefully to improve women’s living conditions and create more equal opportunities in the local community.

Strengthening the local community

Coffee as a tool for improving women's lives

The Terimbere cooperative brings together over 400 small coffee farmers who live scattered in the mountains. Great emphasis is placed on including women in all stages, from cultivation and harvesting to the social development of the area.

This focus on diversity and women’s active role in the coffee industry contributes to improving women’s living conditions in Burundi and creates lasting positive changes in the local community.

Light roasts are our choice

The coffee's special characteristics are at the heart of all our craftsmanship

The journey starts with the farmer

The right roasting and brewing are essential to highlight the coffee’s full flavor potential. When we roast the coffee to perfection, we also recognize the great efforts of the coffee farmers. Therefore, we roast our coffee with care, always with a clear vision for how the flavor profile is best expressed, depending on origin and processing.

We celebrate the coffee’s unique character and work daily to bring out its natural aromas. By choosing light roasts, we preserve as many of the coffee’s delicate flavor nuances as possible, which many will experience as floral and fruity. In comparison, darker roasts often have a stronger, burnt taste.

A light-roasted coffee also reveals any defects more clearly, while a dark roast can more easily hide small flaws. In short, price, quality, and degree of roasting are often closely linked.
