High quality and social responsibility

Prosperidad de Chirinos was founded in 1968 and today has 817 members, a quarter of whom are women. In total, the cooperative cultivates around 2,200 hectares in San Ignacio, Cajamarca. The high elevation in the mountainous San Ignacio region provides ideal conditions for growing high-quality coffee.

Where does the coffee sit on the flavor wheel?

Education

Diversification ensures stable income

The Prosperidad de Chirinos cooperative now has an extensive program with countless opportunities for its 817 farmers. Beyond agronomic support and financing, farmers can also receive training in sensory analysis and income diversification through other agricultural projects such as beekeeping and avocado cultivation.

Over a quarter are women

Women in coffee - the strength behind the coffee

It all starts with the farmer

At Holy Bean, we are deeply committed to empowering women in the coffee industry – from the farmers who cultivate coffee with passion and care to the dedicated women who run the roastery today. By focusing on women’s roles throughout the value chain, we appreciate their unique contribution and actively work to promote equality and empowerment at all levels of the coffee industry.

Over a quarter of Prosperidad de Chirinos’ members are women, who are typically underrepresented and underprivileged in the coffee production sector. The cooperative seeks to address this imbalance through a women’s committee that promotes female members’ empowerment. Many committee members have taken on additional leadership positions.

There is also a youth committee focused on supporting and empowering young producers. A partnership with the National University of Jaén annually supports university education for 10 children of cooperative members.

Social Responsibility

Education and development

Cooperatives make a big difference for small farmers

Specialty coffee is often grown by many small farmers, usually in such small quantities that they cannot process or export their coffee themselves. This is why cooperatives are important, as they help support their education and development in coffee.

The members of this cooperative receive agronomic support, training in good agricultural practices, and access to financing through Prosperidad de Chirinos.

The cooperative has a demonstration farm in San Ignacio where farmers can learn about agronomic methods and how to implement them. They learn about fertilization techniques, pest control, and best harvesting methods.
