Back to the Roots

From Pastor to Coffee Pioneer

Tibebus’s love for coffee farming runs deep and dates back to his childhood, when he helped his father on a farm near the town of Dilla. After a career as an evangelical pastor, he rediscovered his passion for coffee farming, captivated by the beauty and fertile soil of Chelchele. In 1982, the Roba family acquired 8,298 hectares of land and embarked on a journey that would transform both their own lives and the local community.

Where does this coffee fall on the flavor wheel?

About the origin

A Coffee with a Conscience

Tibebu Roba places a special emphasis on community and responsibility. In addition to being a dedicated coffee farmer, Tibebu serves as an active pillar of support for the local community, while his family contributes to the farm’s success. In this way, this coffee helps create value further back in the supply chain and supports more sustainable development in the region.

Only the Ripest Cherries

At Tibebu Roba farm, there is a special focus on gentle processing and high quality

The coffee is processed using the Natural method, in which the cherries dry on “raised beds” and draw sugars directly from the pulp. This gives the coffee its fantastic smoothness, natural sweetness, and distinctive berry notes. At the same time, the method is exceptionally gentle on the environment, as it uses less than 5 liters of water per kilogram of coffee (compared to 20–40 liters for washed coffee)—an important consideration in a world where water is a limited resource.
